Around Town – Week of October 5th

Here’s what’s happening this week at the City of Hamilton!

This week there are two meetings scheduled. Just like parliament, these meetings are open to the public and are held in the Mayor’s Parlour in City Hall. Having said that, they can move to a closed door session.

So, what are these two meetings this week?

  1. The Corporation Board will meet this Wednesday (October 7th) at 12:30pm.
  2. The Residents Advisory Committee will meet this Thursday (October 8th) at 12:30pm.

Some key points for the agenda of these meetings are:

Corporation Board

  • A take note on the possible permanent change of use of Perot Post Office away from a post office (currently a covid-19 testing site).
  • The refurbishment of the Court Street sidewalk has been approved. The cost will be $67,778 – the contract has been awarded to Gorham’s Management Design Services. Unfortunately the RFP archive doesn’t seem to work, so not able to review that RFP.
  • There will be a discussion about reducing the cost of car-parking rates for monthly and yearly permits at Cavendish, King Street and Par-la-ville carparks.

Residents Advisory Committee

  • There is a discussion on whether 3 car-parking bays at TCD can be allocated to area residents. For background, there were originally 3 such resident parking bays, however these were lost when TCD changed its layout.

Upcoming Events in the City

There is one upcoming event this week, the Taste of Bermuda Drive-In Experience! October 9th to the 11th at Par-la-ville carpark.

Basically, the carpark will be converted into a drive-in eating experience, complete with drive-by cooking demonstrations, a drive-through photo-booth, food themed movies and free food and drink samples!

Of course, you’ll need a vehicle, and while it is free entry, you need to have a receipt from a City of Hamilton eatery worth more than $25.
