I wrote a post last week talking about the state of Bda’s blogopshere in response to the RGs article where they discussed the musings of Corruption Free Anguilla in light of Limey’s decision to cease blogging, along with the apparent cessation by IMHO.bm and BravoZulu. Tryangle also wrote a bit along the same lines as me, and we both generally concluded that Bda’s blogosphere is far from being in a crisis and is actually more vibrant and diverse than it ever was.
Reading the blog Barbados Free Press as I periodically do I saw that they too had picked up this story; in their case it was four blogs shutting down. I did post on their thread, and provided links to a few Bdian blogs. But I did find it interesting how news travels and gets distorted.
Also, with the Middleton family deciding to cease their legal fight, Bda seems to have made the news on BFP again. Anyway, just thought some might find their take on it all of interest. Its always good to occassionally try to take a look from the outside in to get a different perspective.
jonnystar,
YOU SAID: “But I did find it interesting how news travels and gets distorted.”
Don’t be surprised about that. Barbados Free Press is a filthy muckraker which churns out LIES and MISINFORMATION and HATES black Bajans. Mia Mottley is a black Bajan woman who just became the new opposition leader in Barbados. She is the daughter of Elliot Mottley. That’s the only reason why BFP is pretending to care about this dead girl in Bermuda… to attack her family.

When I say “to attack her family” I am speaking of Mia Mottley’s father.
If you want to get a more accurate picture of what is happening in Barbados, drop those BFP political frauds and log on to reliable blogs that don’t publish LIES…

As a Barbadian I am very ashamed of the way Barbados Free Press CONTINUES (this is not the first time) to exploit the deaths of innocent victims in order to publish stories targeting their political foes.
Before this case, the nastiest thing I ever witnessed from that sleazeball was how he used the deaths of an innocent family (the Codringtons) in an apartment collapse to spew the filthiest political comments imaginable.
It is really sickening to see that shameless BFP fool using the death of an innocent girl in Bermuda to score political points in Barbados.
My deepest apologies to her family.
Thankyou both for your insight. I hadn’t made the connection between the BLP Opposition Leader and the AG involved in the Middletone case.
I don’t know enough about the Bajan blogwwars or local politics to really comment on anything here. My main point about the misinformation on the Bdian blogosphere wasn’t really an attack on BFP, it was more highlighting the general misinformation about our blogosphere, helped somewhat by our own daily paper.
Ms. Middletons’ death was a tragic affair, and it should not be used for political capital. While I am sad for the Middleton family, and angry that our justice system utterly failed in this instance, I remain opposed to the lifting of the double jeopardy; I think this would cause more harm in the future than the good it would serve here. Our justice system has made ccorrections to safeguard against a similar tragedy occuring again though.
I am sure other Bdians more versed in the legal affairs of this case can speak on it either here or on BFP.
Thankyou for providing links to counter BFP; often their is truth to both sides of the story, and this will aid viewres to better understand the complexities involved.
